- TOASTING:
Toasting is a dry-heat cooking method that crisps and browns the surface of food, often already cooked or safe to eat raw, using direct radiant heat. It's a quick process that enhances flavour and texture, but doesn't cook food through. Examples include toasting bread, nuts, or spices.
- BAKING:
Baking is a dry heat cooking method that utilizes an oven to cook food, typically at temperatures of 300°F or higher. It's a common method for preparing items like bread, pastries, and other baked goods. The dry heat causes changes in the starches and proteins of the ingredients, resulting in the desired texture and structure of the final product.
- Buy items like rice, pasta, and oats—they last a long time.
- Frozen vegetables are cheap and don’t go bad quickly.
- Make a short shopping list and stick to it.
- Store leftovers in containers and eat them later.
You don’t need to be an expert to cook. Start with easy recipes and cook two or three times a week. Cooking at home helps you save money, eat better, and learn a useful life skill. Try it! Cooking can be simple, fun, and very rewarding.
